CLEANING LOCAL AREAS

What do we mean by cleaning local areas?

By the phrase cleaning local areas, we mean going outside of school to areas in or near your community to pick up litter off of the ground, especially in areas where litter may affect people or animals negatively. However, if you wanted to go further and be bolder, you could travel out into spaces more heavily impacted by litter, for example the beach, forests or seaside towns.

How can you clean local areas?

To clean local areas, first you should form an idea in your head of what you want done (your end goal) when you’re going to do it and how many people you need to achieve it. The Courageous Advocates recommend a relatively small group of 5-12 for this project, as too many or too little can affect the progress made. You should also be aware of safety precautions you should take when litter picking, which you can access through the button below this article.

How does this create impact?

If you decide to litter pick near the beach, forests or any other natural settings, you can hugely prevent that litter from being blown into the sea or the habitats of many vulnerable animals who may choke on that rubbish later down the line, saving many lives. Even simply litter picking in the city creates a cleaner living space for others, which can positively impact your community’s general mood.

The Courageous Advocates’ job is to help the world to be a better place. That could be through

eco-friendly Lessons, sustainability Awards or using Ecosia. All of these can be found on our website where you found this article.
